- The dollar is strengthening, while the JPY is lagging as USD/JPY tries to break above 150.
- Bond markets are down across the board; Bunds initially rose on weaker German producer prices but ultimately faced selling pressure.
- Crude oil prices are rising as they aim to recover some of last week’s losses, while gold and base metals continue to trend upward.
- Looking ahead, Fed officials Logan, Kashkari, and Schmid will speak, and earnings from SAP are on the horizon.

- We are now two weeks away from the US election on November 5th
- While Kamala Harris still retains a slight overall lead in polls, due to the US electoral system, this can be misleading. Each state is given a number of votes roughly in line with the size of its population. A total of 238 electoral college votes are up for grabs, with 270 needed to win.
-While there are 50 states, there are only a handful of states where both candidates can realistically win, known as "swing states".
- Donald Trump is now (betting markets) favourite to win in all except one of the seven swing states
- Michigan remains 50/50
- A reminder that the consensus market reaction for a Trump win is for protectionist policies starting with aggressive tariffs. The short-term effect of this is likely to raise the price of goods=>inflationary.
- In addition to the recent robust data from the US, additional inflationary pressures could hinder the Fed’s aggressive rate cut plans.

Global bond yields are under pressure
- UK Gilts lead the downward move after soft UK inflation data.
- UK inflation came in well below target at 1.7%, with more rate cuts expected next month and December.
- BOJ member Adachi said the risk of inflationary pressures has reduced significantly, with no set pace in mind to raise rates.
- LVMH warns that consumer
conditions in China are as bad as they were during the pandemic.
- The ECB meet tomorrow and are expected to cut rates tomorrow by 25ops, with back-to-back cuts expected for the next four meetings into 2025.
