“The winter night has grown long; blessed is the one who has excelled in their actions during it, and unfortunate is the one who has done wrong”

What is the purpose of knowledge?
Shaykh Saleh Al-Usaymi حفظه الله

قال يوسف بن الحسين:
Yusuf ibn al-Husayn said:

بالعلم يصح له العمل
“Through knowledge, actions are made correct.

وبالعمل تنال الحكمة
Through actions, wisdom is attained.

وبالحكمة يفهم الزهد
Through wisdom, asceticism is understood.

وبالزهد تترك الدنيا
Through asceticism, the world is abandoned.

وبترك الدنيا ترغب في الآخرة
Through abandoning the world, the desire for the Hereafter is fostered.

وبالرغبة في الآخرة ينال رضي الله تعالى
Through desiring the Hereafter, the pleasure of Allah the Almighty is obtained."

ومراتبُ الدُّنيا لا تُنال إِلَّا بالصَّبر على البلاءِ في طلبِها والمُجاهِدة
The ranks of this world are only attained through patience in the face of adversity and striving.

فكيف مَن أَراد مقعدَ صدقٍ عند مليكٍ مُقتدرٍ؟
So, how can one who desires a Seat of Honour in the presence of the Most Powerful Sovereign achieve it?

الوقتُ هو الحياة
Time is life

ومن أَضاع وقتهُ أضاع حياته
Those who waste their time are actually wasting their lives;

ومن اضاع حياته
and those who waste their lives

نَدِمَ ولا تنفعه الندامه
will be full of regret when it will be too late

مجموع فتاوى ابن باز ١٦/٢٦١

إذا مـا أُنـاسٌ فاخَرونا بمالهم
Whenever people boast about their worldly possessions to us

فـإنّـي بـمـيراثِ النبيين فاخِرُ
then I surely take pride in possessing the inheritance of the Prophets [the wealth of knowledge]

ألم تـرَ أنّ العـلمَ يُذكرُ أهلُهُ
Have you not seen, that as a result of knowledge, it's people are mentioned

بـكـلّ جميلٍ فيه والعظمُ ناخِرُ؟
with all types of beauty, even when their bones have been decayed?

يا من عدى ثم اعتدى ثم اقترف
‎Oh you who dismisses, then transgresses and then commits sin;

‎ ثم ارعوى ثم انتهى ثم اعترف
‎Then you cease, refrain and admit (make tawbah);

أبشر بقول الله في تنزيله
‎Rejoice with the Saying of Allah in His Revelation;

‎"إن ينتهوا يغفر لهم ماقد سلف"
‎"If they cease, then what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them."

لا تقل رأيت ولم تره
Do not say “I saw” when you did not see

وسمعت ولم تسمعه
or say “I heard” when you did not hear

وعلمت ولم تعلمه
or say “I know” when you do not know

فإن الله سائلك عن ذلك كله
for verily Allah will question you about all of that.

On Eid, it is legislated to display joy and happiness and to enjoy the various types of permissible things while avoiding what is forbidden.

The legislated Eid’s are not a time for forbidden actions. That is a form of being ungrateful for Allah's blessings rather than being thankful for them.

True gratefulness to Allah is when a worshiper hastens to acts of obedience and enjoys what Allah has made permissible for him, not hastening to engage in disobedience.

عيدكم مبارك، تقبل الله منا ومنكم
Eid Mubarak! May Allah accept all of our good deeds 🤍✨

My brothers and sisters: Today is the best Jummah of the entire year, and the actions on this day are better than the actions in the rest of the Jummahs throughout the whole year! So work vigilantly with this day, and try your best to make sure your intention is sincere following the sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.

الدعاء في العشر الأوائل من ذي الحجة فضيلة الشيخ د. عبد السلام الشويعر

أحيوا سنة التكبير
revive the sunnah of the takbeer

وعمروا بيوتكم بذكر الله
and build your homes with the remembrance of Allah

كبروا ليبلّغ تكبيركم عنّان السمّاء
magnify Allah, so that your magnification reaches the heights of the sky

كبرو فإن اللّٰه عظيم يستحق الثناء
magnify Allah, for indeed Allah is great and warrants praise

الله أكبر
الله أكبر
لا إله إلا الله
الله أكبر
الله أكبر
ولله الحمد

﴿وَاتَّخِذوا مِن مَقامِ إِبراهيمَ مُصَلًّى﴾ 🤍

والعجب أن الناس غافلون عن هذه العشر
And strange is that people are unaware of (the virtue of) ten days of Dhul-Hijjah

تجدهم في عشر رمضان يجتهدون في العمل
you will see them striving in the last I0 days
of Ramadan with good deeds

لكن في عشر ذي الحجة لا تكاد ترى أحداً فرَّق بينها وبين غيرها
but during Dhul-Hijjah you would find almost
none of them making any difference between
these virtuous I0 days and other normal days
(i.e he does not make any special effort for
Dhul-Hijjah)."

قال الإمام ابن القيم:
Imām Ibn al-Qayyim said: ‏

لو كانت ليلة القدر بالسنة ليلة واحدة
If the Night of Qadr was some night during the entire year

لقمت السنة حتى أدركها
I’d stand in night prayer the entire year to get it

فما بالك بعشر ليال فقط
So what do you suppose should be done for merely ten nights?

بدائع الفوائد ١/٥٥

قال الشيخ محمد ابن صالح العثيمين رحمة الله
Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saleh al-‘Uthaymīn (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

بعض طلاب العلم الآن أجفى من الأعراب
some students of knowledge today are rougher than the Bedouin

لا عنده بشاشة ولا تسليم ولا تواضع
they don’t have amiable dispositions, or give the salam nor humility

بل بعض الناس كلما ازداد علماً يزداد كبراً والعياذ بالله
furthermore, there are some people who as they increase in knowledge, they increase in arrogance, and we seek refuge in Allāh from this.

لقاء الباب المفتوح ٢٣٢

للذّكْرِ تَأْثِيرٌ عَجِيبٌ فِي انْشِرَاحِ الصَّدْرِ وَنَعِيمِ الْقَلْبِ
the remembrance of Allah has an amazing effect of ease, serenity and tranquility within the heart and chest

وَلِلْغَفْلَةِ تَأْثِيرٌ عَجِيبٌ فِي ضِيقِهِ وَحَبْسِهِ وَعَذَابِهِ
whilst on the other hand, negligence of Allah's rememberance causes tightness, constriction and torture to the heart and chest
