Physical exam shows a diffusely tender thyroid without nodules.

A 35-year-old man presents to the clinic with weight loss, palpitations, heat intolerance, and tremors over the past few months. He denies any eye pain, vision changes, or bulging of the eyes. Physical examination reveals a normal-sized thyroid gland without tenderness or nodularity. Vital signs are notable for a heart rate of 105 beats per minute.
Laboratory studies show the following:
TSH: 0.01 µIU/mL (Normal: 0.4–4.0 µIU/mL)
Free T4: 3.2 ng/dL (Normal: 0.8–2.0 ng/dL)
Total T3: 250 ng/dL (Normal: 80–180 ng/dL)
Thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor antibodies (TSH-R Ab) are negative. A radioactive iodine uptake (RAIU) scan reveals low uptake.
Laboratory studies show the following:

A 12-year-old male presents to the clinic accompanied by his mother, with complaints of persistent diarrhea and vomiting for the past 4 hours. Earlier in the day, the patient attended a school picnic where he consumed potato salad from a vendor. Approximately 5 hours post-consumption, he developed nausea, vomiting, and mild watery diarrhea. The patient's medical history is non-contributory. Vital signs reveal a temperature of 37.3°C, Blood pressure of 115/70 mm Hg, pulse of 77/min, and respirations of 16/ min. Physical examination shows a soft abdomen with hyperactive bowel movements Physical examination is notable for a soft abdomen with hyperactive bowel sounds; otherwise, findings are unremarkable.
