SEBI report released yesterday reveals the dark side of F&O trading. Summary ๐
1. 73 lakh loss-making individuals lost โน87,600 crores in FY24 alone!
2. In last 3 yrs, 1.13 crore unique individual F&O traders lost โน1,81,000 crores.
3. Top 3.5% of loss-makers (4 lakh individuals) lost โน28 lakh per person over 3-yr period.
4. Over 1 cr loss-making traders (92.8% of individual traders) lost โน2 lakh each (avg) over a 3-yr period.
5. Only 1% individuals managed to make profits of >โน1 lakh per person.
6. Who makes money from your F&O transaction costs (FY22-24 data, SEBI report):
a) Brokers: โน25,000 Cr
b) Govt (STT, GST & Stamp Duty): โน13,800 Cr
c) Exchange fees (NSE/BSE): โน10,200 Cr
Total ~โน50,000 Cr
On avg., a trader spent โน26,000 in FY24 in F&O transaction costs.
