Old money property:
Château de Pregny
The Château de Pregny, located by Lake Geneva, has been a cherished Rothschild family home for generations. Adolphe Carl von Rothschild (1823-1900) purchased the estate in 1857, demolishing the original house and expanding the land in 1858. He hired English architect Joseph Paxton to design the château, known for its ornate entrance and lake-facing façade. Paxton also created the park, gardens, and impressive conservatories, which Adolphe’s wife, Julie, filled with espalier fruit trees and exotic animals. The estate passed through the Rothschild family, hosting League of Nations meetings and remaining in their hands today. In the 1990s, the glasshouses were donated to Geneva's botanical gardens.
