Migori County Assembly ordered to pay Ksh 900,000 in compensation to Allan Chacha, a candidate for the position of Speaker, for violating his privacy by publishing his curriculum vitae (CV) on its website.
Chacha lodged a complaint with the Office of the Data Commissioner claiming that despite not securing the position, the assembly retained his CV, which contained sensitive personal information.
Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait determined that the assembly had no lawful basis to publish the CV publicly and instructed its removal within seven days.
The assemblyโs defence, citing standing orders, was rejected, as only the list of shortlisted candidates, not their CVs, was to be shared publicly.
