A dog was caught on camera carrying a human head in Monte Escobedo, Zacatecas on Wednesday. The head is believed to have been left behind by the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) before the dog took it.

The video, which was shared on social media platforms, shows a dog walking away while the man recording the video can be heard stating, "This dog is carrying a human head."

Local reports speculate the dog may have grabbed the head after it was left behind at a BBVA ATM branch on Colegio Militar street, on top of two threatening messages. The messages, commonly referred to as 'narcomessages', threatened an individual identified as Jaime Roman Chavez, known as 'El MZ 5.3'. Authorities added that they recovered the head but have not yet recovered the rest of the body.

In early September, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) commended a reduction of homicides in the state. The Secretary of National Defense, General Luis Crescencio Sandoval, stated that since the implementation of the Zacatecas II Security Plan, between November 26, 2021, to July of this year, there has been a 51.5% reduction in homicides linked to organized crime. However, Zacatecas has consistently remained one of the country's top 10 most violent states and ranks first in the nation for extortion. Despite crediting a reduction in homicides to the Zacatecas II Security Plan, the General acknowledged an upward trend in extortion and intentional homicide.

Violence in the state has consistently increased due to the war between the Grupo Flechas and C@rtel del Escorpion, both armed wings of the Cartel de Sinaloa, against the CJNG. The state is a highly coveted transit point for drug trafficking, especially fentanyl, due to two crucial federal highways that connect it to the US border states of Tamaulipas and Chihuahua. According to the state Secretary of Public Security, up to 90% of homicides in Zacatecas are linked to organized crime.

At least 20 were killed, including Mayor Conrado Mendoza Almeda, and dozens were injured following attacks in San Miguel Totolapan, Guerrero on Wednesday. Los Tequileros are implicated in the attack.

The first attack occurred outside of the municipal headquarters, where the façade of the building was riddled with bullets. The second attack occurred at a location where Mayor Conrado Mendoza Almeida was holding a meeting.

The mayor, his father and former mayor, Juan Mendoza Acosta, the director of Public Security of the municipality, Freddy Martínez Suazo, the advisor to the mayor, Roberto Mata Marcial, the health administrator of Tlapehuala, Genesis Araujo Marcos, and two officers were also killed. The rest of the casualties have not yet been identified.

A video of the aftermath of the attack shows multiple bodies with bullet impacts.

The gunmen then set up roadblocks on the Iguala-Ciudad Altamirano federal highway to impede the arrival of security forces to the scene.

The Undersecretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, stated during a morning press conference, that the attack was a "dispute" between Los Tequileros and La Familia Michoacana (LFM).

Los Tequileros emerged in Guerrero in 2012 after they split from LFM. In 2020, they turned against LFM and allied with the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG). In a video released on January 2020, the alleged leader of the group, "La Mula" announced his cartel's alliance and issued threats against leaders in LFM, including "El Zarco", "El Médico", Francisco Maldonado Bustos "Don José", and the "people with El Pescado."

They are dedicated to poppy and opium trafficking. They are also known for kidnappings, extortion, homicide, and disappearances. The leader of the group, Raybel Jacobo de Almonte, known as "El Tequilero," was killed in February 2018. Now, Los Tequileros and La Familia Michoacana are reportedly disputing control of San Miguel Totolapan.

San Miguel Totolapan, in Tierra Caliente Guerrero, is among the municipalities in Guerrero considered high in drug production and trafficking, due to its near access to the Pacific corridor.

A criminal lawyer, identified as Héctor Ulises, was arrested on July 20 for trying to bribe a judge in Veracruz with MXN 40,0000 (approx. USD 2,000). According to local sources, the lawyer was attempting to bribe the judge to free his six clients, who had been arrested for murder in the Dos Caminos neighborhood of Boca del Río.

Héctor Ulises was accused by the eleventh prosecutor, Rodrigo Burgos Castro, of asking one of his clients for MXN 40,000 pesos to bribe Judge Alma Aleida Sosa Jiménez. He was handcuffed in the middle of a court proceeding. In a video showing the arrest, the lawyer can be heard requesting a phone call and asking to collect his client's files.

He was taken to the Playa Linda Prison where he is held on corruption charges. The six individuals he represented were charged with the murder of 48-year-old Hilario YV.

Two officers with the Criminal Investigation Agency were injured after an explosion in a home in Irapuato, Guanajuato on Thursday. The explosion was likely remote-controlled and detonated after the officers were lured to the location.

The explosion occurred on José Zapata street in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood of Irapuato where the officers located 11 bags with human remains, including a human head in a white Styrofoam cooler. Independent journalist Gerardo Hernández recorded the moment the explosion occurred. The status of the two officers has not yet been revealed.

According to local media, the officers arrived at the home following reports of gunfire in the area and dismembered human remains on the premises. However, local sources say that a local criminal organization likely placed the call to the authorities to lure them into the home, where they detonated an explosive device once the officers arrived. According to a video released on social media networks, the criminal organization had a live stream of the home set up. From there, they were able to observe when the officers entered and searched the home.

In the video, the criminal organization claimed that the Ministerial Police and military were the intended targets, who they accuse of operating outside of their authority by not having search warrants and "harassing the family of our [members]." It finishes with: "Remember that all of Guanajuato has an owner. And there is no fear here."

At this moment, it is unclear which criminal organization is responsible for the attack although the weakened C@rtel Santa R0sa de L1ma (C-S-R-L) and C@rtel J4lisco Nueva Generaci0n (C-J-N-G) are known to use explosives in Guanajuato.

However, the C-J-N-G is responsible for the latest attacks, including killing two and injuring four after sending an explosive device to the Barra 1604 Restaurant in Salamanca in September 2021.

A video has surfaced purporting to show an officer of the Sinaloa state police taking cash from the driver of a red truck. The individual recording the video can be heard saying, "…they took his money."

The driver of the red truck is seen detained by three officers, while one appears to be counting a wad of cash. The video cuts as the officer finishes counting the money.

The Secretary of Public Security of the State Cristóbal Castañeda Camarillo stated that the officers have been removed from duty and an investigation has been ordered into the "possible acts of corruption" perpetrated by the Sinaloa police. Castañeda Camarillo is also requesting that the individual detained by the officers come forward with a formal complaint.
