Video Quality Selection for Watching and Saving

Users of the Beta version of Telegram for Android 11.2.3 have now can choose video quality when viewing and saving certain videos.

Here’s what’s known about this feature:

• The option to select quality is available only for videos processed by Telegram’s servers to support HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) playback.

• As of today (October 17, 2024), users do not have a method to upload videos in a way that guarantees Telegram will process them for HLS support. Users have observed that quality selection for the same uploaded video may sometimes disappear or reappear. Forwarded HLS videos or videos from link previews may also lack the quality selection option. It’s worth noting that the messenger might need some time to process the video before offering quality options.

• When viewing, to choose video quality, you need to tap the three dots icon on the video playback screen and select "Quality" from the menu.

• Depending on the specific file, Telegram provides several quality options optimized for streaming. For Full HD videos, Telegram generally offers choices in 1080p, 720p, and 480p. There’s also an automatic quality selection option in this same menu.

• The quality option labeled “Source” refers to the uncompressed version of the video that hasn’t been re-encoded by Telegram.

• When saving such videos to your device, the app will automatically prompt you to choose the quality.

• HLS videos do not display chips with size or download status. The app always shows them as fully downloaded videos with only their duration indicated.

Test server is unavailable

For the past few days, users have been unable to log into the test server using either their real numbers or test 999 numbers.

@betainfo has no information about the reasons for the unavailability of the test server, nor whether it will become available again in the future.

New Design of the "My Stars" Section

For users of the beta version of Telegram for Android 11.2.0, the "My Stars" section has now updated design.

New Video Broadcast Options

Users of the beta version of Telegram for Android 11.2.0 can now start broadcasts in RTMP mode.

Previously, this feature was only available to users of Telegram Desktop and Telegram for macOS.

The new option is currently only available on the test server.

Star Gifts

Users of the beta version of Telegram for Android 11.2.0 can now send to other users not only pure stars, but also star gifts.

Please note: the feature is currently only available on the test server.

Each star gift is a sticker with a number of stars attached to it, as well as an optional text comment. The gift can be sent either on your own behalf or anonymously.

A user who has received a star gift has two options:
1. Pin a gift to their profile. In this case, other users will see this gift when they open the profile screen. However, stars from such a gift will not be credited to the recipient's balance.
2. Convert the gift to stars: transfer stars from a gift to their balance. A gift from which stars were transferred to the balance cannot be pinned to a profile, and if it was pinned there earlier, it disappears from there.

Currently, gifts worth from 25 to 2,500 stars are available. When transferring stars from gift to your balance, you need to pay a 15% commission.

Another important change is that users can now send stars as gifts directly from their balance. Let us remind you that previously, even if the sender had stars available on his balance, he still had to buy new ones to send them to someone as a gift.

New Reasons For Reporting Content

In the beta version of Telegram for Android 11.2.0, users can now report content for more different reasons than was previously available.

The content report menu now includes reasons such as “Illegal goods”, “Personal data”, “Copyright”, and some others.

Some items in the report menu, such as “Scam or spam”, are now sections in which the user can specify more detailed reason for the complaint.

When selecting some reasons, the application prompts the user to add a text comment. It is noteworthy that when selecting reasons ”I don't like it” and “It's not illegal, but it must be taken down”, it is impossible to specify a comment.
