2. Changing Your Environment: If certain places or company encourage sin, distance yourself from them.
Be mindful of what you watch, hear, and say.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever can guarantee (the chastity of) what is between his two jaw-bones and what is between his two legs (i.e., his tongue and private parts), I guarantee Paradise for him.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari 6474]
3. Surround Yourself with Righteous People:
Good company helps maintain good habits. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“A person is likely to follow the faith of his friend, so look whom you befriend.”
[Sunan Abu Dawud 4833]
Overcoming sin is a process that requires patience. You may face setbacks, but what matters is your commitment to return to Allah and try again.
Constantly seek Allah’s assistance through du’a (supplication) to help you overcome sinful tendencies. The Prophet ﷺ frequently made the supplication:
يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ
“O Turner of hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion.”
[Sunan at-Tirmidhi 2140]
