Why in News - Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson, James Robinson win Economics Nobel for 2024

✅The trio have been recognised “for studies of how institutions are formed and affect prosperity.”

✅The laureates’ research examines how different political and economic systems, particularly those established during colonialism, have had long-lasting effects on the prosperity of nations.

✅Their work has developed theoretical frameworks to explain why certain institutions endure over time and how they can evolve, shedding light on the persistent income gaps between countries, the academy said in awarding the prize.

✅“Reducing the vast differences in income between countries is one of our time’s greatest challenges. The laureates have demonstrated the importance of societal institutions in achieving this,”

Why in News - Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) recently issued draft regulations for the installation of
RATs in residential, commercial, institutional and industrial buildings.

✅ Rooftop Aero Turbine (RAT) RAT refers to a small scale wind energy plant that can be installed on
roofs of consumers’ premises to generate electricity by harnessing wind power.

✅“These turbines are designed to operate in urban or suburban environment where wind speed is lower and more turbulent than in open areas.

✅Solar generation is only during the daytime, but wind energy can be harnessed even at night,”

✅These plants should mandatorily be mounted on rooftops installed with or without solar panels, according to the draft titled Draft KERC (Implementation of rooftop aero turbine with solar or without solar) Regulations, 2024.

✅Installed capacity of RAT - 1.25 times the sanctioned load with solar and less than 1 kilowatt and within the sanctined load without solar

Why in News - Ministry of Earth Sciences Approved installation of X - band Radarin wayanad.

🔹Radar is short form of ‘radio detection and ranging’. The device uses radio waves to determine the distance,velocity, and physical characteristics of objects around the device.

🔹X-band radar is radar that emits radiation in the X-band of the
electromagnetic spectrum: 8-12 GHz,corresponding to wavelengths of around 2-4 cm (this is in the microwave part of the spectrum.)

🔹Doppler radar is a type of weather radar that uses the Doppler effect.

🔹India has been using meterological radars since 1950s. X band radar from 1970, now India has both X Band and S Band radars

🔹NISAR Project - It's a joint satellite project between NASA and ISRO it will use a special type of radar called synthetic aperture radar to create detailed maps of Earth's surface.

✅South Korean author Han Kang won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature for "for her intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life,"

✅The prize is awarded by the Swedish Academy and is worth 11 million Swedish crowns ($1.1 million).

✅The prizes, for achievements in science, literature and peace, were created through a bequest in the will of Swedish dynamite inventor and businessman Alfred Nobel. They have been awarded since 1901, with the final prize in the line-up - economics
